Laotian Hospitality in Luang Prabang

Room Type: Pool Villa
Stay: 6 nights

How to get there and Check in

The hotel is the original French Governors Residence built in the 1900's and the restored buildings surround a lovely garden with a large pool area.

Booked the airport transfer with them and they provided water and cakes for the short journey from the airport which should take all of 5 minutes but they drive so slowly it took 15 but this is nice change from Thailand and was an indication of how relaxed it is here.

A quick and easy check in with an upgrade to a Pool Suite.

Room

All the rooms are set around the lovely gardens and swimming pool creating a peaceful and relaxed retreat.

Our pool suite was really nice with a four poster bed, seating area, large bathroom with wash basins, outdoor rain shower and bathtub.

Outside was a covered area with seating and a small private pool with sun beds.  The wooden decking was in need of a bit of TLC and it does get incredible hot but it was nice to cool off in own pool.

Size: 55 sqm

Dining

Stunning setting for breakfast and afternoon tea- plus you can smoke INDOORS!

All meals are served at the tented Governor’s Grill which also serves international food. Breakfast was good with eggs cooked to order, bacon, sausage, hash browns, cereals, bread, croissants, fruit and yoghurts.

The one evening meal we had there was excellent although expensive compared to restaurants in town.

We booked a Cooking Class at the hotel and I would highly recommend doing this. You are taken by the chef to the local market to buy ingredients and luckily for me the main dish was the Laos version of my favourite Thai dish, Penang Gai. We have even cooked this dish since coming home as you are given a little cook book!  After the class you then go to the restaurant to eat your creations.

Conclusion

A enjoyable stay and a nice place to come back to to relax, the gardens are lovely and the service perfectly acceptable so I would consider staying again. Located in a quiet residential area not really within an easy walk of the centre of town but it is possible to walk if you can find your way. They provide a shuttle to their sister hotel The Three Nagas in town which was very useful as this is also a good place to eat.
