An impressive iconic hotel with strict security at the entrance to the Tower wing. The reception area is large and check in staff are fairly efficient.
I cannot say I walked in and went Wow, it is like any large hotel reception area.
Taj have now separated the two wings on their website so to stay in the tower wing look for Taj Mahal Tower.
Arrival
Check in is all done at the desk, no welcome drinks etc. We had yet to experience the usual over the top welcomes!
Room
We had a smoking room in the Tower Wing, this comes with a small balcony that is blocked in with mesh so view over the India gate is restricted.
The room was small especially the bathroom but extremely comfortable, clean and traditionally furnished with everything you require. The housekeeping staff are wonderful and leave little gifts such as oils to help you sleep and little bags of bath salts and creams!
Size: 26 sqm

Dining
Breakfast was good and you can have a table outside overlooking the garden and pool area and you get a visit from the crows! We also ate in this restaurant one night which was good. Another night we grabbed a take away from round the corner which was superb.
Service
Not overly impressed with the service, you felt anonymous. Housekeeping were friendly.

Conclusion
Although you have a good choice of 5 star hotels in Mumbai, I like the location of the Taj plus you get a great view of the India Gate. It is easy to go out and walk the area which has a lot of nice shops and restaurants, we felt perfectly safe. Although the room was small it was very comfortable and a pleasure to come back to after a hectic day sightseeing.
We did not feel that you get the same personal service as at the Oberoi’s but no complaints and I would certainly return due to the location and perhaps stay in the old wing.
